Policies
Please read the policies and property rules carefully prior to reserving your stay.
Reservation Policies
- There is a 3 night minimum for each reservation.
- Each rental at Los Chonchos is privately owned. Reservations are not transferable from palapa to palapa.
- Each rental home is unique and includes different amenities and different sleeping capacities, occupancy maximums, electricity availability, etc.
- By confirming a reservation, the cardholder also confirms that they have read and fully understand the capacities, amenities and restrictions of their chosen rental as described in the specific rental page description.
- All rates are valid for the inquiry date(s) only. Rates are subject to change and will only be honored as shown on the website if the reservation is confirmed by means of a charge to a credit card, and you receive a confirmation number from your host.
- All reserving parties must be 25 years of age or older. All minors under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a legal guardian or adult upon check-in.
- The cardholder/reserving party is responsible for sharing and distributing all reservation information, rules, tips and pointers to additional members within their reservation party. Please forward or share all information received with other members of the party for appropriate planning.
- The reserving party is responsible for any additional charges incurred for its party through the party's reservation, including any charges as a result of informational oversight.
- All reservations are subject to availability existing at the moment of request and are subject to change until payment confirmation has been made.
- All lodging reservations and applicable charges (including tax & services charges) must be paid in full (100%) upon making a reservation in order to receive a confirmation number.
- Reservations are not confirmed until full payment for the reservation has been made.
- A confirmation number and confirmation email will be sent by e-mail to the reserving party.
Cancellation Policies
- Since each palapa is independently owned and managed, all cancellation requests must be made to your host directly. Their contact information is made available to you through the reservation request process.
- Cancellations confirmed at least 60 full days prior to the reservation start date will receive a full (100%) refund of accommodation fees.
- Cancellations confirmed at least 30 full days prior to the reservation start date will receive a 50% refund of accommodation fees.
- Cancellations confirmed less than 30 full days prior to the reservation start date will not be eligible for refunds. 100% of the reservation will remain charged to the applicable credit card.
- However, if the cancellation is requested and confirmed at least 7 days prior to the reservation start date, the credit card holder of the canceled reservation can apply the amount paid on the reservation to another set of dates within 12 months (1 year) of the previously confirmed original reservation start date for the same rental (subject to availability). Los Chonchos hosts will not accommodate any change of rental unit and are not responsible for amenity-related changes made to the unit during this 12-month (1 year) period. The reserving party is responsible for paying any difference in rates made during the rebooking period.
- Reservations that are cancelled within 7 days of the reservation start date will receive no refund or rebooking window opportunity. 100% of the reservation will remain charged to the applicable credit card, regardless of situations when a service must be interrupted, postponed or cancelled for reasons beyond its control, including travel mishaps, navigational errors, miscalculations of in-country travel times, road conditions or closures, family deaths, airline cancellations or delays, acts of God such as bad weather, health issues or illnesses, acts of terrorism, or any other unforeseen circumstance.
- Upon receiving a written cancellation request, via e-mail, by the reserving party, all hosts commit to sending a cancellation confirmation by email with a cancellation number within 72 hours of receiving the cancellation request. No cancellation will be valid without a cancellation number provided by the host.
- Allow up to 2 weeks for refund to be distributed.
- Any reservation that has not been canceled properly, according to the above parameters, will be charged fully to the credit card as a “no show.”
- Any reservation changes or cancellations must be made by the cardholder.
Rules of the property
- No amplified music is allowed outside of your palapa. Music and video volumes should be kept to indoor levels. Quiet hours are 10 pm to 8 am everyday.
- Beach fires are not allowed.
- No Nudity
- Guests may not bring pets
- No Firearms
- The water conditions and beach landing at Los Chonchos are unpredictable. If the sea is too rough, the Nayeli (water taxi) will not land in Los Chonchos. Instead, it will drop you off in the next town, Chimo, where you can hire a mule and guide to carry your things for MX$500 (subject to change). From Chimo, you will hike into Los Chonchos (a moderately strenuous hike of about 50 minutes). We strongly recommend using backpacks to transport your belongings. Refunds and discounts will not be provided under these circumstances. Remember, it’s an adventure!
- Check-out time for all rentals is 10 a.m.
- Exact directions and additional information (including packing tips, planning pointers and additional food information) will be sent to you with your confirmation number upon making a reservation.
- IMPORTANT: There are no emergency services, clinics or hospitals available in Los Chonchos or in Chimo. Each palapa provides a first aid kit. If there is an emergency that requires more than first aid, it is likely someone at Los Chonchos can help you find a boat or connectivity, though this is not guaranteed. Chimo is the nearest place to find connectivity and hire a boat to return to Boca de Tomatlan. Guests are solely responsible for their well-being and health. By booking a reservation, you agree to these policies and release your host and Los Chonchos of liability.
- Have a pack-itin, pack-it-out mentality. Do not leave unused things you think other guests can use, including suntan lotion, shampoo, spices, etc. It inevitably turns into garbage. Please pack it out.
- Commercial activity such as events, conferences, filming, etc. are not allowed without express written consent.
-
Guests must leave their palapas clean and in good working condition. Do a general tidy up. Wash and dry the dishes and put them away. Tie up your garbage and recycling bags, put them at the path leading up to your palapa. Pack out all of your unused provisions
- A charge of $150 will be applied to your credit card if our staff needs an excessive amount of time to clean up after you. -
Please separate recyclables from garbage. Refrain from bringing glass or packaging of new items, as much as possible. DO NOT PUT GLASS OR FOOD IN THE GARBAGE. Food waste should be composted outside of your palapa or near the ocean along the rocks. Follow specific guidelines provided by the palapa’s host.
- A charge of $150 will be applied to your credit card if food or glass is found in your garbage -

- A charge of $500 will be applied to your credit card if septic maintenance is caused by your misuse. - The majority of palapas in Los Chonchos are private residences. Please do not explore or enter other palapas without permission.
- As hosts, we do our best to keep all systems in good working order. Sometimes things go wrong. Refunds and discounts cannot be provided for system problems related to water, solar and/or WiFi. Bottled water is always provided.
