Los Chonchos Eco Preserve
Looking for a secluded beach vacation? Want to reconnect with nature and fall asleep to the sound of ocean waves?
Experience an off grid retreat where the mountain jungle meets the sea at Los Chonchos Eco Preserve in Cabo Corrientes, Jalisco, Mexico – one of the last remote hideaways of its kind in the world.
Los Chonchos Eco Preserve is a remote off-grid community surrounded by lush tropics and secluded beaches. There are no roads, electric grids, convenience stores or any of the other distractions of modern civilization.
This exotic paradise is only accessible by water taxi or by hiking in. Guests stay in open air cabins with palm-frond roofs operating on solar power. Relax and listen to the sounds of nature. Swim, hike, snorkel, find shells on the beach… or do nothing at all. Watch for whales, manta rays and tropical birds, go fishing or hiking or simply marvel at the sunset from your private terrace.
Nature abounds in Los Chonchos. Enjoy an off-grid vacation rental and unplug from the world in this tropical paradise!
A Remote Beach Vacation Like No Other...
Visiting Los Chonchos is a unique experience and is not for everyone. A familiarity with and reverence for remote off-grid vacations is recommended.
There are no restaurants, grocery stores or services at this secluded beach location. You bring your own food, though once you arrive you can ask our onsite staff to bring local delicacies. We do not offer housekeeping services during your stay.
It’s the remote location and lack of amenities that make Los Chonchos unique. Enjoy the privacy and solitude. Tune into the rhythms of nature.

Palapas
There’s no better place to relax in a hammock than under the roof of a palapa with the sounds of the ocean and nature surrounding you.
Each palapa is unique, offering full kitchens, bathrooms, comfortable sleeping quarters and outdoor decks. Electricity comes from solar panels installed on each palapa. Some offer WiFi, while others prefer a digital free experience and do not.
What to bring
Pesos
Bring pesos! Bring more than you think you will need. We cannot stress this enough. There are no nearby ATMs and if you only have US or Canadian dollars your exchange rate will be terrible. It is not easy for people in Chimo to exchange different currencies
Flashlight/headlamp
Each person needs their own! Don’t depend on your mobile device’s light. Our trails and pathways are not lit, and it can be pitch black at night. Headlamps and flashlights also act as backup in case the solar system experiences trouble. Remember to bring back-up batteries or chargers.
Backpack
Use a backpack to pack trip essentials. Do not plan to use rolling or heavy suitcases, as they are difficult to carry across the beach and to the palapas.
Flip flops, sandals, Boots & Socks
Flip flops are good for going to the beach and on boat adventures. Sandals with straps are good for hiking around the property. Boots and socks are recommended for longer jungle hikes, including into Chimo. At all times, boots help protect you from rocks as well as biting insects or animals on the ground.
Biodegradable/non sulfate toiletry products
Los Chonchos is an eco-preserve. Do not introduce products that are harmful to the environment. That would defeat the purpose.
A sense of adventure!
Keep in mind that Los Chonchos is not a fancy hotel or a 5-star resort, but rather an off-grid vacation community located in the jungle.
